Unlike in many of the season’s previous races, however, Verstappen did not cruise to victory. Starting second on the grid, it wasn’t until lap 37 that the Dutchman passed Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc to take the race lead. Verstappen said afterwards that the race was “definitely a lot of fun.”“It was a tough one. I tried to go for it at the start,” he told reporters of his attempt to pass Leclerc at Turn 1. Perez, however, did secure second place in the drivers’ championship to ensure Red Bull will end the season with a one-two in the drivers’ championship for the first time.

Asked if he was looking forward to this weekend, the three-time world champion was unequivocal, "No." "I just always want to focus on the performance side of things," shrugged Verstappen. "I am looking forward to trying to do the best I can, but not looking forward to this." Reporting by Steve Keating in Las Vegas.

REUTERS/Leonhard Foeger/ File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Ross Brawn is tipping a resurgent McLaren to take the fight to dominant Red Bull and triple world champion Max Verstappen next season. So, I think with that improvement going into next season they can be a real threat. Brawn was also optimistic Ferrari would improve under Fred Vasseur's guidance but recognised Red Bull would not be standing still and had the added benefit of being able to switch attention early to next year's car. Red Bull have so far won 19 of 20 races, with Verstappen triumphant 17 times -- a record for a single season that he can extend in Las Vegas this weekend -- and team mate Sergio Perez twice. I think sometimes when you get a team dominating you'd hope that both drivers would be fighting each other and that hasn't happened with Red Bull, which is a shame," said Brawn.

These moves demonstrated that Unilever thinks that a "fresh perspective on all aspects of the business is necessary", Nick Train, manager of the Finsbury Growth & Income Trust and co-founder of Lindsell Train, told Reuters. A bungled attempt to buy GSK's consumer healthcare business was followed by billionaire activist investor Nelson Peltz joining the board. Unilever CEO Hein Schumacher will have his pay frozen until 2026.will have his pay frozen until 2026. AdvertisementAdvertisementThe CEO of Unilever won't be able to get a pay rise until 2026 amid shareholder frustration, Bloomberg reported. The board's proposed pay package was rejected by shareholders at Unilever's annual general meeting in May, per Bloomberg. That's a nearly 20% increase on the fixed pay of the previous CEO, Alan Jope, from whom Schumacher took over in July. It means Schumacher won't be eligible for a pay increase in 2024 or 2025, and his fixed pay level will be reviewed by a compensation committee in 2026.

Euro zone inflation, growth slow as ECB hikes weigh

Summary Euro zone inflation lowest since July 2021 in OctGDP shrinks slightly in Q3FRANKFURT, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Inflation in the euro zone hit a two-year low a month after its economy began contracting, data showed on Tuesday, illustrating the dual impact of a steady diet of European Central Bank's interest rate hikes. But the brisk decline from the double-digit figures of just a year ago is coming at a cost: the euro zone economy dipped by 0.1% in the three months to September, according to a separate Eurostat release, and is flirting with a recession. "The data leaves the ECB firmly on hold," Dirk Schumacher, an economist at Natixis, said. "It's now down to weaker demand grinding down inflation and that's a slow process," Natixis' Schumacher said. "Still, continued economic and geopolitical uncertainty alongside the impact of higher rates on the economy will weigh on economic activity in the coming quarters."

New-look Unilever retains its old-style opacity

Unilever logo is displayed on Dove soap boxes in this illustration taken on January 17, 2022. Back in 2017 Unilever fought off a Kraft Heinz (KHC.O) takeover approach by pledging a 20% operating margin; now there just isn’t a target. But it leaves a question mark over Unilever’s long-term direction. And it might leave long-term critics like fund manager Terry Smith still griping about opacity. In January Smith complained that Unilever had revealed the price tag on only three of 27 acquisitions in its Beauty and Wellbeing division over eight years.

"The figures reinforce the view that interest rates have likely reached their peak in the current tightening cycle." The inflation drop was broad-based, with all price categories growing at a slower pace and energy prices falling outright for a fifth consecutive month. Euro zone inflation briefly hit double digit last autumn amid a combination of soaring energy costs, post-pandemic snags in supply chains and high government spending. So far, the ECB is sticking to its expectations of an economic rebound next year, partly thanks to higher real wages as inflation falls. "The rise in interest rates has been much quicker than in previous times so looking to the past as a model may mislead," Schumacher added.

Since then, Unilever has worked to make Elida an autonomous unit that could also appeal in its entirety to private equity firms, the sources added. Morgan Stanley and Evercore have now contacted several parties to gauge acquisition interest in Elida for what could be a multi-billion-dollar deal, according to the sources. Unilever, Morgan Stanley and Evercore declined to comment. This has prompted Unilever, the maker of Dove soap and Ben & Jerry's ice cream, to review its portfolio of non-core assets it can sell to raise cash. "The inflation momentum is simply too strong for the ECB to pause," Danske Bank economist Piet Haines Christiansen said. In contrast, markets have fully priced in unchanged rates at next week's meeting of the U.S. Federal Reserve, which started raising rates earlier and has moved higher than the ECB. "We doubt that this will be possible and expect that a decision to hold rates steady today would mark the end of the tightening cycle." The central bank for the 20 countries that share the euro faces a dilemma. "The inflation momentum is simply too strong for the ECB to pause," Danske Bank economist Piet Haines Christiansen said. Just 14 months ago, that rate was languishing at a record low of minus 0.5%, meaning banks had to pay to park their cash securely at the central bank. The euro zone's biggest economy, Germany, is bearing the brunt of an industrial slump and heading for recession, according to several forecasts. On Thursday, the ECB is also expected to cuts its growth projections for this year and next, leading some economists to argue it should hold off from raising rates this month.
